    The ingredients needed to make Hyderabadi Khichdi and Khatta:

    1. Take 1/2 kg Rice either basmati or any good quality
    2. Take 3/4 cup Red lentils or masoor dal
    3. Get 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
    4. Get 3 tbsp Ghee
    5. Get 1 tsp Caraway seeds
    6. Make ready 2-3 Cinnamon sticks
    7. Make ready 3-4 Cardamom pods crushed
    8. Take to taste Salt
    9. Make ready 4 Green chillies whole
    10. Take 1 tsp Garam masala powder
    11. Take 1/2 cup Coriander and mint leaves chopped
    12. Take 1 tsp Turmeric powder
    13. Take 1 onion sliced
    14. Take For the raw imli and til ka khatta
    15. Get 1 cup Water
    16. Prepare 1 lemon sized tamarind ball
    17. Prepare 4 tbsp Roasted and powdered sesame seeds
    18. Get 4 Green chillies slit
    19. Get 1 large onion thinly sliced
    20. Make ready 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
    21. Prepare 1 tsp Salt

    Till ka khatta is made of till called (sesame seeds) it a sour kind of preparation especially made in Hyderabad. Khichdi is a not just khichdi, its way beyond a humble dish. You might be aware of the long history of khichdi symbolising Indian culture and the versatility of our national dish khichdi. Today I have a Hadrabadi Khichdi for you along with khatta recipe.


    Instructions

    Instructions to make Hyderabadi Khichdi and Khatta:

    1. First of all, soak rice and the lentils after washing thoroughly for at least 20 minutes. Now in a non-stick pot, heat ghee and add the ginger garlic paste and the sliced onion to it. Saute it for a few minutes until the raw smell fades away on a low heat.
    2. Add the whole garam masalas one by one. Also add the garam masala powder, turmeric and the green chilies and coriander leaves. After about 5 minutes of sauteeing, add the soaked rice and lentils.
    3. Saute for a minute and then add about 4 cups of water along with the salt. For the first 10 minutes, let it cook on high flame stirring in between, to mix everything well. After 10 minutes, lower the flame and cover.
    4. Let it cook on low flame until done. It will be done in 18-20 minutes. Keep mixing in between with light hands just to ensure that it is mixed up well.
    5. FOR THE RAW IMLI AND TIL KA KHATTA…..Squeeze the soaked tamarind well to take out the juice. To this add the salt and the roasted sesame seeds powder. Also, add the sliced onion and the slit green chillies.
    6. And finally, garnish it with chopped coriander leaves. Khatta is always of a thin consistency only. It tastes awesome. Serve the delicious khichdi with this khatta, kheema, pickle of your choice, poppadums and any fried item. Sesame seeds powder can be added more if desired to make a thicker consistency khatta.
    7. I served it with homemade potato chips and til ka khatta along with lime pickle and ghee.
