    1. Wash and soak rice and daal together for 10 minutes. Slice onion.
    2. In a pot heat the oil and add all the whole spices. Add onion and fry it then add ginger garlic paste and turmeric and saute it.
    3. Add soaked rice and dal to pot and saute it on medium flame for 5 minutes.
    4. Add 5 cups of water, add salt and let it boil. When rice is half done add chopped coriander and mint leaves and let it cook.
    5. When water is absorbed lower the flame for another 5 minutes. Ready to serve.
